Pearland Texas Real Estate : Curb Appeal is like a JOB INTERVIEW

Curb Appeal is like a JOB INTERVIEW

DON'T Forget about curb appeal of your home it is the first impression, just like a job interview. In a job interview they say you only have seconds to make a good impression.

How is your curb appeal? Will your home pass the initial first impression test? These are questions to ask yourself each morning and evening your home is active on the market for sale or lease. Having a quick checklist will help to insure your home is ready.  The fact is a lot of buyers like to take a drive by the home before they make an appointment.  You want your property to be on the buyers appointment list to come inside to take a look.

Home for Sale in Pearland Texas

Here is the Daily Curb Appeal List

Does the lawn need to be mowed?

Do the hedges need to be trimmed?

Any weeds or dead plants or flowers need to be removed?

Remove any trash, recycle bins, newspapers, etc..

Make sure all walkways, porches, steps and driveway are swept and tidy

Take time to prepare for the picture day for your home.

Home for sale in Pearland Texas

Picture day is an important day.  These are the pictures the public will see.  The front of the property will most likely be the first picture they see on the MLS and different internet sites.  I always tell my sellers to take their time in getting the home ready.  One or two days will not hurt as bad as a home that is not picture ready and has bad curb appeal.

In addition to the above items, it is strongly suggested to have fresh bark mulch in the flower beds.  If the home needs fresh paint and wood repair now is the time to take care of these items.  Also, make sure the front porch is ready.  A couple of items to purchase which won’t cost much but, will make things more welcoming would be a front porch mat and a nice potted plant. Last but not least make sure the front door is tidy & clean.

Just remember curb appeal is from day one until you go to closing. While waiting to be let in by their Realtor, the first thing a buyer looks at closely is the front of your home. Take a walk across the street and take a look.  Ask yourself what you would see if you were a buyer.

For more tips, check out Seller Resources on our website. . If it is time for your home to go on the market you can’t afford not to spend some time and in some cases a little money on curb appeal.  Remember the main goal is to distinguish your house from others.

Yard care is a big one. If they have a well kept yard it can make a big difference in the overall appearance of the house. That is not to say the house shouldn't be maintained as well.

Very TRUE Amy it truly is the whole package.

Maggie, We use the saying.."we can't sell it if they can't see it". Definitely cut back or remove overgrown shrubs along the front of the house. When minimizing and trimming back shrubs, the home looks bigger and brighter immediately! This is a great reminder to all sellers to pay attention to making the best "first impression" possible.

I like that saying Jane & Gary. You are right about making the home look bigger and brighter.

It's amazing how many sellers do little or nothing to spruce up the appearance of their home from the curb.  They may declutter and clean, but adding mulch or trimming trees just eludes them.

Hi Maggie, Great tips for home sellers! Curb appeal is SO important and if home sellers follow the steps you've outlined here they stand a MUCH better chance of getting prospective buyers through the front door.

I could not agree more Bonnie.

Thanks Coleen, I hope it helps some seller's get their home SOLD.

Ahh...picture day...if only they all could look as nice as your home's picture...alas...they can't ... and even more frustrating is 3 months from now when there is snow on the ground the one that will be in the MLS will be the one with the summer green colors letting everyone know it was available all last summer...

Great title... So true! So many buyers will drive by a home first before calling their agent, so you need to make sure the home makes a fantastic first impression!

Reblogged with this intro.... I love the title here! What a great way to look at it. Curb appeal is like a job interview. Put your best foot forward. In our area, it is really important to roll out the photos when the listing first hits the market so prospective purchasers do not skip over the listing for lack of interest. So a delay is better than a disaster. Time the listing and the outdoor photos so the job interview lands you the job aka sold sign.

I would add that it is far easier to maintain landscaping than to repair landscaping.

Now if only the rain would stop, I could wack some weeds.

Maggie:  Good post and congrats on the feature.  I have had clients, who upon seeing the home as drove up, told me to keep going and cancel the booking.  The house was too run down to view.   Curb appeal matters!!!

Great post and so true - curb appeal and lead picture appeal can mean the difference between a showing or not. Internet photos are so important in our market b/c so many of our buyers are out of town, second home buyers who choose the listings they want to see soley on what they see from pictures on the Internet. If a photo hasn't done justice to a home's potential, it can be a huge deterant.

Fantatstic topic as virtually all buyers want to drive by a home first, wih less than a minute they make adecision whether they want to go inside or keep driving. The exterior needs to be inviting, clean and maintained.

Thank you Sandy.

Glad you liked the blog Marge.

Cheryl; Thank you.  I am glad you liked it enough to reblog.  I really like your intro.

Very True Lenn. Yall are getting rain and we are praying for Rain.

Valerie; This is what got me thinking about writing this blog.  I have had buyers tell me the same thing.

I could not agree more Charlie and Scott.

Thank you Lori, I am so glad you liked it enough to ReBlog.

Hi Pam, Thank you and I have to agree that some (not all) seller's don't get how important curb appeal is to the sell of the home.

Maggie - Curb appeal is so important otherwise buyers may blow by the property whether on the internet or on the street.

Posted by Christine Donovan Costa Mesa CA Homes Broker/Attorney 800-610-7253 DRE01267479 (Donovan Blatt Team - Donovan Group Realty) 8 months ago

Christine, I like that saying "blow by" that is the truth if the buyer does not like what they see.

I guess people do judge a book by it's cover. Owning a home is a responsibility, please maintain it.
