I have the distinct honor of serving on the Board of Directors for the Adult Reading Center (a non-profit, United Way organization) in Pearland, Texas. The Adult Reading Center's mission is to provide free instruction to adults with low literacy skills. Each year, we put on the Red Hat Literacy Luncheon which raises money for the Adult Reading Center. This is on of my favorite events! Over 400 people gather to support the Reading Center. One of the students of the Adult Reading Center, Nina Hayden. There wasn't a dry eye in the room when Nina told her story of struggle of not being able to read for most of her life. Today, Nina, who could not read to her children when they are little, can now read to her grandchildren!
