The City of Pearland will host the 122nd Texas State Arbor Day on Friday, April 29 at Southdown Park (2150 Countryplace Parkway). Festivities begin at 10 a.m. followed by a tree planting and remarks at 11 a.m.
Among the list of invited dignitaries are Thomas G. Boggus, State Forester and Director of the Texas Forest along with the winners of the local Arbor Day poster contest. The celebration will also honor longtime Keep Pearland Beautiful volunteer and Parks and Beautification Board member, Marjorie Wilcoxson.
Arbor Day is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Founded by J. Sterling Morton in 1872, it's celebrated on the last Friday in April. The first Texas State Arbor Day was held in 1890 at the State Capital. For more information on Arbor Day, please visit www.arborday.org.
