Help Our Brazoria County Neighbors Get to Safety in an Evacuation!
In an evacuation, some members of our community in Brazoria county cannot evacuate on their own. Anyone who doesn't have reliable transportation, or can't drive, or can't afford fuel to get to safety can get a ride out. No matter what the situation, we want to make sure everyone has a way to get out of Brazoria County during an emergency.
The Brazoria County Office of Emergency Management and our State and City partners have developed a plan to make sure everyone can get to safety.
The first step in that plan is to get to one of the Evacuation Transportation Hubs. The hubs will be located at the Old Glenda Dawson High School in Pearland and the Brazoria County Fair Grounds in Angleton. From there, the travelers go by coach bus to Bell County. To make this plan successful, the Brazoria County CERT and MRC members will be called on to assist with the management and operation of the Angleton Hub. We will help register the travelers, load the buses, and assist with parking and luggage.
The Hubs will operate for about 24 hours starting about 60 hours before tropical storm force winds are forecast to reach our county. All Citizen Corps Members will be able to leave the Hub well before the storm affects our county.
The Hubs need 45 people per shift to be fully staffed. Please come out to training on August 27th from 9am-Noon to learn how the hub will operate and all of the tasks involved.
We will set up and operate the hub for about one hour and then do a short debrief to learn from the exercise. We might even have door prizes and snacks!
