One year ago on August 7, 2010, Pearland Parks and Recreation unveiled its most anticipated facility to date, the Recreation Center and Natatorium (RCN). To commemorate the occasion, the department will host the RCN Birthday Bash on Saturday, August 13, 2011. Festivities begin with fall registration for classes at 8 a.m. followed by various demonstrations and public use of the facility until 8 p.m. Facility admission, demonstrations and refreshments are free of charge.

11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Gymtastic Demonstration
12:00 p.m. - 1:00 p.m. Freestyle Jumping Demonstration
1:00 p.m .- 2:00 p.m. Camping and Fishing Demonstration
2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Archery Demonstration
3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. Wii Games on the Big Screen
4:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Cake and Refreshments
6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Pool Party in the Natatorium
Located at 4141 Bailey Road, the Recreation Center and Natatorium aims to provide additional fitness and aquatic opportunities for the Pearland community and surrounding cities alike. The 107,000 square foot facility is a joint partnership between the City of Pearland, Pearland Independent School District and the Pearland Economic Development Corporation. Recreation amenities of the building include a gymnasium, weight room, dance/aerobics room, racquetball courts, locker rooms and an elevated indoor track. It also houses a multipurpose room, kitchen and a children's drop-in play area for adults utilizing the facility. Inside the natatorium is a 50-meter pool, two 3-meter diving boards, two 1-meter diving boards and an activity pool complete with a zero depth entry. The natatorium also serves as home to the Pearland and Dawson High School swim and water polo teams.
