This past weekend, Pearland Parks and Recreation hosted its Annual Pearlnd Paws in the Park. It was a BLAST! One of the many reasons why I love Pearland is the great community events we have! There were so many people from our community there and we all had a great time!
Pearland Paws in the Park kicked things off on Saturday morning with the HEB Plus! Pet and Owner Fun Run followed by the national “Dock Diving” competition presented by Meadowlake Pet Resort. This were two neat events to watch! Check out Parks and Recreation's website for some great photos!

Another aspect of Paws in the Park - and perhaps my favorite - was author Ruth Zavitsanos. Zavitsanos traveled from the northeast to be at our Pearland community event. She has a wonderful childrens' book titled The Villa Dog.
began writing at the age of 12. Growing up outside of New York City, she attended many Broadway plays and musicals that served to stimulate her imagination. After graduation, Zavitsanos maintained her desire to write by editing and writing for corporate bulletins, preschool/elementary school newsletters and the local newspaper. As a stay at home mom, she is able to devote her mornings to writing. Her children’s book, THE VILLA DOG, is ranked #1 with my publisher for YA/Children’s sales and is now available in Print. She is working on a second children’s book. For more information on Ruth Zavitsanos, check out her website!
I encourage you all to check her book out through the synopsis below - your child (and I can guarantee you too!) will thoroughly enjoy it!
Synopsis of The Villa Dog

Nestled away amongst the olive groves of the Tuscan hillside stands a welcoming villa where a dedicated dog finds his way into the hearts of vacationing families. Sole has one purpose, to make visitors happy. He is kind and sensitive. Sole takes his job as THE VILLA DOG seriously. His bravery and loyalty are often rewarded. He keeps the children out of harm's way, and eventually the others become aware of his special ability to bring happiness. But it's not always easy being The Villa Dog. A young girl, Issy, makes it tough. She's so sad. Can Sole find out why? Or, will he fail his purpose for staying at the villa and disappoint his master? Being the Villa Dog can be hard work, but he's on a mission, and he'll stop at nothing to see Issy smile.
